Ariadne

Ariadne is a feminine name of Greek origin.

A name with beautiful meaning, “most pure”, “most innocent”.

From the Greek element “ἀρι” (pron. ári), meaning “most” and the word “ἁγνή” (pron. agní), meaning “pure”, “innocent”.

According to Greek mythology, Ariadne was the daughter of King Minos and Pasiphaë. Minos was the son of Zeus and Europa, Pasiphaë was the daughter of Helios and Perseis.

In all the ancient myths Ariadne is of divine descent.

She fell in love with Theseus, the mythical king and founder hero of Athens, and gave him a thread to help him escape the Minotaur’s Labyrinth.

A different myth mentions Ariadne as the beautiful woman turned to stone by King Perseus and descended to the underworld. Dionysus, the god of wine, fertility and grape-harvest, discovered and brought her back with him to the Mount Olympos, home of the twelve Olympian gods.

Alternative forms of the name are Ariadna, Ariana, Arianne, Aryanna.
