Agnes

Of Greek origin.

From the Greek name «Αγνή» (Hagne).

Derives from the Greek word «αγνός» (hagnós), meaning “chaste”, “intact”, “pure”.

It was the name of Saint Agnes of Rome. She was a popular Christian martyr and thus the name was very popular in the English speaking world, mostly during the Middle Ages.
