From the Greek verb “ὀδύσσομαι”, meaning getting angry, hate.

Sources also mention possible origin of the name to be from the ancient Uluš, used by the Hittites.

It also known as Ulysses, which is the Latin form of Odysseus.

Odysseus was the hero of Homer’s epic poem “Odyssey”.

He was the king of Ithaca who fought in the Trojan War. He was an extremely smart strategist, resourceful leader and intelligent warrior.

Odysseus made a ten year’s journey back home after the fall of Troy and he was presumed dead in Ithaca.

His devoted wife Penelope and son Telemachus try to deal with the twelve “Mnesteres”, also known as Proci, who compete for Penelope’s hand.

Feminine form of the name is Ulyssa.

Other forms of the name are: Ulysses, Ulises, Ulysse.

Famous bearer is Greek poet Odysseas Elytis, who, in 1979, was awarded with the Nobel Prize in Literature.
